Fortunately, almost all of what I wrote match his account. Memory is a funny thing. My memory of what Mr Naik told me could have been at variance with what he told Rudra Bhattacharjee!
Even different people present at the same event can have wildly different versions of it - especially if there is self interest involved.
I had a piece on that - it is commonly known as the Rashomon Effect.
“Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathomed depths of ocean bear.
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its fragrance on the desert air”
These memorable lines come to mind on reading this sad tale of Mr Naik’s (mis)adventures.
Maybe we can track him down, sit him down, and get him to reminisce, as you did in the past?
Interesting thought. It turns out that a few months after wrote that piece, an article appeared

He did directly talked to Mr Naik.

Dear God!
Very glad that the man is alive and not bitter, though he may be disappointed.
I’d love to go and shake him by the hand, in his New Bombay flat.
Since he uses social media (Fakebook — my spelling —since he gets “friend” requests), that may offer a pathway to connect…
No mention if the bands he played in ever cut records of their performances…
Even of this sounds like prejudice, “Dilip Naik Plays Jazz Guitar” does not “ring” nicely, just as Shubroto Sings Sinatra sounds fake (though I do)!
What a fascinating adventure this could turn out to be!
If you can pull it off, that could be quite something.
There was a kid called Amithav - did a tribute to Dilip Naik

He is going into jazz as well.

(Except for the lucky few.)
